Springcourt Shoes
The French label
Springcourt created an icon in
1936 that would revolutionise
sports forever. Up until then,
tennis players had to put up
with espadrilles that were
designed for casual
promenading, not competitive
sport. George Grimmeisen
turned all that around with
the invention of what would
become known throughout the
world as the ‘Tennis shoe’.
Made from a cotton upper and
an sole made of vulcanised
rubber, the tennis shoe
spawned an entire industry
and
can be considered to be the
grand-daddy of the modern-
day
sneaker.
Springcourt is still
producing tennis shoes,
constantly evolving the basic
design to fit in with the
times. Their latest collection
of infinitely wearable and
comfortable shoes incorporate
the very best in design flair
combined with that classic
look to create a contemporary
advancement on the original
1936 design. Springcourt
doesn’t need to bow to the
trend setters. It is too much
of an icon to be influenced by
mere fashion, yet has
managed
to influence both fashion and
sportswear for over 70
years. |
